Grand Opening Tay Salmon Season 2019

Tuesday 15th January 2019, marks the official opening of the 2019 River Tay salmon fishing season.

Anglers from all over Scotland will gather in anticipation to secure the prized largest catch. The traditional opening of the salmon season on the River Tay has been held at Kenmore since 1947.

Why not join the anglers in a parade down to the river bank accompanied by the Vale of Atholl Junior Pipe Band  and be part of this historic Highland Perthshire event. Enjoy a dram from Dewar's World of Whisky to toast the blessing of the water for the new season. After that 'tight lines' will be declared and the first cast of the day will begin.

If you enjoy fishing why not take part? Salmon fishing permits are available from The Kenmore Hotel on the day. You may win the coveted prize of the largest salmon caught that day. Take a photo of your catch, then measure its length and girth (from the front of the dorsal fin) ensure a witness is on hand and call the Kenmore Hotel with your results! All salmon caught before April must be returned to the river.

After your angling extravaganza why not come back to the luxury of the award winning Mains of Taymouth Country Estate & Golf Course. Many of our properties have log fires, saunas and hot tubs to soak away your tired limbs.
